2007 Turkmenistan and Iran
Once again I went back to this region. This time with my friend Christian. We had a great trip!
Turkmenistan, with a great mix of madness, history and nature, and Iran, with proud history, a fascinating society and probably the
friendliest people in the world (as I also noticed in 2005).

2006 Central Asia
One of the reasons I went to Central Asia is because my friend and colleague Naimdjon is from Tajikistan. He arranged for
me to stay with his family in Khujand. His brother Nasimdjon with his friend Samandar travelled with me all the way through
Tajikistan to the Uzbekistan border. Everybody was really friendly to me in Tajikistan. It must be their Persian roots...
Uzbekistan was more about the architecture and history, as I visited the magnificent Silk Road cities of Samarkand and Bukhara,
along with the walled slave caravan city of Khiva.

2005 Iran
My second trip to the Middle East was done with my friend Rune. The visit here was fantastic.
Many lovely cities, spectacular landscape, all kinds of climate, impressing historical sites,
water pipe ... what more can you ask? Well, a cold beer wouldn't hurt.
Also, the Iranians are probably the friendliest people on earth.

2005 Syria, Jordan and Lebanon
This is my first trip to the Middle East, but I will definitely return.
The region is the cradle of civilization and it has lovely cities, landscape and people.
Syria is probably the friendliest country I have ever been to.
Baalbek, Palmyra and Petra are all in the Top 10 of my visited archaeological sites.

2004 Zambia
I went to Zambia with my friend Morten. This was the first time in Africa for both of us, and it was
quite an experience. We saw the big five (Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhino), Victoria Falls,
the market in Lusaka and Lake Malawi. All of this in just three weeks.

2004 Gaustatoppen, Norway
Tony, who I met in Peru, came to Oslo in May with his friends Jürgen and Vicki. They wanted to see
some of Norways famed mountain landscape. We rented a car in Oslo and took a day trip to Gaustatoppen,
1883 meters above sea level. This May day was just perfect weatherwise.

2003 South America
I started in Buenos Aires with a Spanish course and ended up in Lima 9 weeks later.
There were some problems with violent demonstrations in Bolivia when I got to Argentina. Lots of nations were
evacuating their citizens. When I got up to the border area, things had been quiet for a few days, but
I decided to skip Bolivia just in case. But, because I wasn't able to get a bus ticket from
Salta (Argentina) to San Pedro (Chile), I ended up doing about a month in Bolivia. It turned out
to be the most spectacular in my life. What a country....

2002 China
The first half of this trip was done with my friend Rune. We started in Beijing and I travelled
back home from Hong Kong.
Beijing was really great. But it also was polluted and very hot.
Yunnan was my favorite.
Lovely climate and spectacular scenery.
The lower southern part was also great, but I visited at the wrong part of the year, as it was hot
and humid.

2001 New York City
I visited New York with my father just above a month before 9/11. We also went on top of
WTC.
Superb city. It has everything. The bustle and traffic of the great avenues and the
tranquility of Greenwich village and the parks. Concerts and theatres. De La Guarda and the concert
with Oscar Peterson at Blue Note is probably the cultural highlights.
